Railways Continuing Anti-Encroachment Drive

Report by Engineering Post

Pakistan Railways was continuing its anti-encroachment drive throughout the country to retrieve its encroached land along its network but the progress seems to be quite slow result-wise.

According to the facts and figures now available from the official sources, Pakistan Railways has retrieved only  2826 acres of its encroached land during the last six financial years 2020-21 to 2025-26. The  retrieved land retrieved so far is valued at Rs 21.178 billion.

Pakistan Railways owns a total of 168858 acres of land out of which about  70 percent is being used for  operational purposes across the country.

Around 9.1 percent of Railways land has been leased out while 4.97 percent  continues to remain under illegal and unauthorized occupation by private individuals and 2.36 percent  was under forcible  possession of the government departments.

Pakistan Railways was leasing out its land through competitive and non-competitive bidding processes  under its Property and Land Rules 2025.
