PPL Launches Execution Phase of Major Barite, Lead & Zinc Mining Project

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has officially launched the execution phase of its Barite, Lead and Zinc (BLZ) Project after signing a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) agreement with Germany-based engineering services firm DMT Germany, marking a significant step forward in the development of Pakistan’s mineral resources and mining sector.

The agreement was signed in the fourth week of June at PPL’s head office in Karachi by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Khalid Rehman and DMT Germany Head Florian Beier, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations, including Head of PPL Minerals Zeeshan Asghar.

The BLZ Project is a joint venture between Pakistan Petroleum Limited, the project operator, and the Government of Balochistan. The appointment of DMT Germany as Project Management Consultant is expected to ensure the application of international engineering standards, advanced mine planning, technical excellence and efficient project execution throughout the development process.

PPL stated that the collaboration reflects its commitment to adopting global best practices in engineering, project management and sustainable mineral development. DMT Germany will provide technical oversight and consultancy services to support the successful implementation of one of the country’s most significant mining initiatives.

The Barite, Lead and Zinc Project is among Pakistan’s largest planned open-pit mining ventures and is expected to unlock substantial mineral reserves while strengthening the country’s mining industry. Besides boosting domestic mineral production, the project is anticipated to enhance export potential, attract further investment in the mining sector and generate employment opportunities in Balochistan.
