The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has restored the powers of Chairman NEPRA Tauseef H Farooqi after a mere four days, through a notification.
On October 25, 2021, NEPRA had withdrawn the administrative authority of its chairman Tauseef H Farooqi and stripped him of his delegated powers relating to administration, finance and human resources. NEPRA had stripped the chairman of his power for three months with room for extension in time if required. The powers for the time were given to Member KP.
However after four days the notification was nullified and a new notification was issued stating “With immediate effect, the majority of the Authority members are pleased to recall the notification No. MON-01/2021/4141 dated October 25, 2021 and departments including Registrar, coordination, implementation, administration & Human Resource, Finance and Legal shall report to the Chairman NEPRA till further orders of the Authority,”
Two of the employees of NEPRA Maria Rafique, Legal Advisor NEPRA and Asfandyar Farooq Khan, Deputy Director (Admin& HR), had filed complaints to Wafaqi Mohtasib against the Chairman NEPRA. Maria Rafique filed a complaint of mal-administration against Chairman NEPRA. She is still of the opinion that the chairman has pressurised the Members and staffers into changing their opinion.
