PNRA likely to complete one out of two projects during 2022-23

Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) is implementing only two development projects in a phased manner involving small  costs just in three figures.

One of its two projects namely Re-enforcement of PNRA’s Capacity and Regulatory Oversight against vulnerabilities of Digitized Control and Cyber Threats at Islamabad, Karachi, Mianwali” is likely to be completed  during ongoing financial year.

The project was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in December 2017 at an  estimated cost of Rs 497.410 million involving no foreign aid. Against this, an amount of Rs 307.520 million was reported to have been utilized  on its execution till end of June 2022.The remaining   required amount  of Rs 189.890 million has been allocated for its continued implementation by end of ongoing financial year if not earlier under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP)of the Federal Government 2022-23 .

Other project titled “Establishment  of Regional Nuclear Safety

 Inspectorate at  Lahore” was approved by CDWP in  Mach 2021 at a cost of Rs 327.200 million also involving no foreign aid. Only an amount of Rs 89.300 million ws incurred on its implementation by end June 2022. Against  throw forward  of Rs 237.900 million, only  Rs 100.000 million have been provided for its continued implementation during current financial year indicating that it may take another one year or even more for its completion  due to  lesser provision of funds despite its being a project involving money only in three digits.
