The prime minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Shareef organized a meeting to discuss means of energy savings in the country. It was informed in the meeting that the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) requires an increase in capacity and the policy will be presented before the cabinet in the near future.
The PM decided in favor of the increase in NEECA capacity. An air ministerial committee has been formed under the leadership of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the purpose. The PM expressed his disappointment in the current situation and performance of NEECA and ordered the committee to work on the authority and make it effective immediately. According to the plans provided by NEECA officials, energy saving can be made possible in the construction, communication, agriculture, industrial and power sector.
The Prime Minister highlighted to focus on the development of a plan in proper steps to revive and re- capacitate NEECA as soon as possible. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, federal ministers Ishaq Dar and Khurram Dastgir Khan, Adviser to Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik, special assistants Jahanzeb Khan and Syed Fahad Hussain, and relevant senior officials were a part of the meeting.
