of Managing Director of state-owned Oil and Gas Company Ltd (OGDCL) Shahid Saleem Khan. Though the company is suffering in the critical phase but he has given his resignation confirming before the parliamentary committee. However, the resignation of MD is still under the phase of approval while the secretary and the MD OGDCL appeared before a sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Responding to his resignation-question to convener committee Syed Naveed Qamar, he targeted reports of media being aired after the statement of federal government. As the OGDCL Board of Directors was not satisfied with his performance and consistent delay of decisions for the past two months has resulted in losing the creditability of the company. The hiring of candidates on the top posts is now in the middle of completion and this resignation-scandal happened. At this stage, when company is in the lagging-position, the MD’s resignation is unexplainable. Despite the pandemic impact on the oil and gas sector, the OGDCL, during the year, posted improved sales revenue of Rs239.104 billion (FY 2019-20: Rs232.925 billion). The devastating short-comings of higher operating expenses on account of increase in salaries, wages and benefits, work-over charges, repair and maintenance and repayment of development and production assets has harmfully exaggerated the financial performance.
