The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), acting as the exclusive operator of
the Mari East Block (100% ownership), announced a substantial gas discovery on Tuesday at the
Chak 214-1 exploratory well, situated in the Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab province.
The Chak 214-1 well was initiated on June 29, 2023, as part of OGDCL’s determined pursuit of
exploration, leveraging their in-house expertise. The well was drilled to a depth of 1851 meters.
The wireline logs interpretation results indicate that Drill Stem Test-1 in the Dunghan Formation
yielded 1.1 million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas, with a choke size of 32/64”
and a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 230 Pounds per Square Inch (PSI). Drill Stem
Test-2 in the Sui Main Limestone (SML) produced 1.31 million Standard Cubic Feet per Day
(MMSCFD) of gas, with a choke size of 32/64” and a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of
260 pounds per square inch (PSI).
This momentous discovery marks a first in the Mari East Block, highlighting OGDCL’s
unwavering dedication to tapping into the hydrocarbon potential of the area through an assertive
exploration strategy. It presents fresh opportunities and pledges to make a substantial
contribution to addressing the energy demand and supply gap using local resources. Furthermore,
this discovery reinforces OGDCL’s and Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves and bolsters the nation’s
energy security.
