New Gas reservoir found in North Waziristan by MPCL

Mari Petroleum Company Ltd. (MPCL) recently discovered a gas reservoir during
its exploration at Kawagarh of Shewa-2 Appraisal Cum Exploratory well, located in
North Waziristan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and announced the discovery as
the operator of Waziristan block.
The work on the well had begun last year and was successfully drilled down to
4577m at the end of 2023. The gas flow during the drill was recorded to be 0.607
million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) with the well head flowing
pressure of 97psi at 32/64” chock size during the drill.
MPCL holds a 55 percent interest along with OGDCL and OPI as joint venture
partners with OGDCL having a 35 percent interest and OPI having a 10 percent
working interest in the project. The discovery has proven to be yet another
addition to the previously discovered hydrocarbon bearing zones of Lokhart and
Hangu at Shewa-1. The Shewa-2 discovery has confirmed the extension of
hydrocarbon play in these formations.
The Lockhart formation in Shewa-2 well was tested (post acid) at a gas flow rate
of 51 MMSCFD and 391 barrels of condensate per day at wellhead flowing
pressure (WHFP) of 5,972 pounds per square inch (Psi) at 38/64-inch choke size.
