In conversation with Mr. Anwar ul Haq, Chairman, Mecatech Group
Mecatech Industries, a well-established name in HVAC and generator manufacturing, is making significant strides toward innovation and diversification under the visionary leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Anwar ul Haq. Known for producing generators and allied components such as canopies, the company has now ventured into the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) market with its newly developed product line under the brand name MECAIR. This bold step reflects Mecatech’s commitment to growth and its focus on meeting evolving market demands.
Reflecting on the company’s journey during an exclusive conversation with Engineering Post, Mr. Anwar ul Haq shared, “We started with generators and allied products like canopies, but we always knew that growth requires diversification. Entering the HVAC market was a natural progression for us, driven by a vision to innovate and provide world-class solutions.”
The move into the HVAC sector was not spontaneous but the result of thorough planning and collaboration. Mecatech engaged with several international companies and consultants from countries like China, Vietnam, and Turkey to explore the best approaches to product development. After extensive discussions and research, the company began in-house development of its HVAC products, starting with its Air Handling Unit (AHU). This was achieved with the assistance of expert consultants from Italy and Jordan, marking a significant milestone for the company.
Mecatech’s dedication to quality has been a defining feature of its expansion. The AHU is built with top-tier raw materials, ensuring durability and performance that meets international standards. The fans used in these products are AMCA certified, and the company is in the process of acquiring AHRI certification, which will add significant credibility to MECAIR products in the global market. Highlighting this commitment, Mr. Anwar ul Haq remarked, “Our goal has always been to deliver products that not only meet but exceed international standards. This commitment to quality is the backbone of our success.”
Additionally, Mecatech has developed high-end proprietary software for its HVAC systems, designed to rival those of global competitors. This advanced software enhances both product efficiency and the user experience, further solidifying Mecatech’s position as a forward-thinking innovator in the HVAC sector.
Looking ahead, Mecatech is pursuing an ambitious roadmap for growth. The company is currently designing condensing units and working on package units to expand its product range. Plans are also underway to develop fan coil units, with MECAIR split air conditioners expected to enter the market in a few years. Speaking about the company’s aspirations, Mr. Anwar ul Haq stated, “The ultimate goal is to establish ourselves as a global HVAC brand. In the next couple of years, we aim to start exporting MECAIR products to international markets.”
Despite its achievements, Mecatech faces challenges common to many local manufacturers. The lack of government support for the manufacturing sector is a significant obstacle. Mr. Anwar ul Haq emphasized, “The government needs to provide incentives and foster a supportive environment for manufacturers. Without this, it becomes challenging to achieve export-led growth.” He also highlighted the difficulties posed by the ongoing brain drain, as skilled engineers often leave for better opportunities abroad, making it harder for companies like Mecatech to maintain a stable workforce.
