Iran to supply additional 100MW to Gawadar

Federal Minister for power Khurram Dastgir Khan recently visit Tehran and led a 3 membered delegation in order for the discussions regarding negotiations and finalization of tariffs for the recently completed 220kV Polan-Gabd electric transmission line. The Iranian government is said to have agreed on a deal of the provision of 100MW electricity to Gawadar within a range of 8.4 to 12.4 cents per unit.

The Iranian representatives were initially insisting on fixing the tariffs range from 9.9 to 15.3 cents per unit with immediate effect on Polan- Gabd electric transmission line and the existing Jakigur-Mand transmission line. The two sides finally managed to agree on the new pricing formula for the transmission of electricity. The Iran representatives have agreed to keep the same tariffs for Jakigur-Mand transmission line whereas keep the tariffs for Polan-Gabd transmission line to 8.4 to 12.4 cents per unit.

PM Shahbaz Shareef will inaugurate the soon which will ensure a 24/7 supply of electricity to Gawadar. This will be able to address the issues in Gawadar related to power supply and electricity shortage for the next 10 years approximately.

Both the involved countries have successfully completed their transmission lines in their respective areas. Pakistan is currently importing a total of 104 MW electricity which is being supplied to the bordering areas of Balochistan. After the completion of this project, the total import will reach to 204MW.
