Gwadar port starts operation for Afghan transit trade

The ministry of Commerce has made the Gwadar port operational for Afghan Transit trade. This was announced by special adviser to prime minister for commerce and investment Abdul Razak Dawood via a thread of tweets from his official account. Whet sugar and fertilizers will be transported to Afghanistan through this route. Keeping in view the COVID-19 pandemic all the transportation will be done in sealed trucks.

The tweets state “I am pleased to share with you that Ministry of Commerce has operationalized Gwadar Port for Afghan Transit Trade under APTTA 2010. Shipments of Sugar, Fertiliser & Wheat will be transported in sealed trucks to Afghanistan. In this regard, 16000 MT of DAP and WFP cargo of 500,000 MT Wheat for Afghanistan will arrive next month. Ships from China will also offload at Gwadar. This fulfils long standing request of the business community & the shipping industry, paving the way for generating business opportunities & employment both in Gwadar & along our highways. The move will also jumpstart port operations in Gwadar Port and create the necessary eco-system for another big seaport of Pakistan.”
