Govt to focus on fisheries development in phase 2 of GLLSP

After the successful completion of Gwadar-Lasbelia Livelihoods Support Project-I (GLLSP-I) the government has initiated the second phase of the project namely GLLSP-II.

The GLLSP-II will cover all ultra-poor and poor households in the poverty band of 0-40 with an appropriate mix of an integrated support package, and to synergize interventions with government’s own poverty graduation initiatives like Ehsas and Kamyab Naujawan.

As the Phase-I could not complete jetties construction due to limited capacity available in country with regard to its designing and construction these initiatives will be completed in phase II. It is envisaged that the government will construct three jetties, establish eight hatcheries and eighty commercial net cultures.

The total cost of the project over 6 years, has been estimated at PKR 3 billion (USD 35.2 million). It will be financed by an IFAD loan (USD 30 million (85.1%)), the provincial government’s counterpart funds (USD 4.7 million (10.8%)), and the beneficiaries (USD 0.5 million) through in-kind contribution.
