Govt Plans 150-Acre Automotive Processing Zone at Port Qasim

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has unveiled plans to establish a 150-acre automotive processing zone at Port Qasim, with the facility to be expanded in phases according to market demand.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced the plan during a meeting attended by Port Qasim Authority (PQA) Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Moazzam Ilyas (retd) and members of the PQA Board.

The proposed zone will feature 264 operational units across five specialised segments, comprising 30 commercial units, 84 refurbishment workshops, 60 car display units, 20 machinery yards and 70 auto spare-parts units.

The facility is planned within the Port Qasim industrial corridor, providing direct port access and reducing inland logistics requirements for imported and exported vehicles.

The project aims to establish Pakistan’s first dedicated Import-Refurbishment-Export (AIRE) framework for the automotive sector, integrating vehicle import, refurbishment, display and export activities at a single location.

According to project proponents, Port Qasim’s strategic position as a major gateway for vehicle trade provides a key advantage for the proposed facility.

The AIRE Park is estimated to generate around $200 million in annual net foreign exchange surplus, based on projected exports of approximately $500 million.

The project will be developed in phases, allowing its capacity to expand in line with market demand.
