Ease in lockdown has costed a huge power demand that has created a hike in oil shortage for K-Electric. As temperature rose in Karachi, a usage of up to 3200 MW has been noted that is a challenge for K-Electric. To fulfil demand, generation aptitude has been transferred at furnace oil generating 1250 MW from Bin Qasim Station. According to management, the daily K-Electric furnace oil requirement is nearly 4500 tonnes per day while at present the maximum oil obtained is 1500 tonnes. With pending order of 13,500 tonnes of furnace oil, this is creating difficulties in meeting power demand and necessitate the load management too meet shortfall.
