ECNEC requires updated proposal for Attabad Lake hydropower project

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has asked for an updated proposal before the 54 MW Attabad Lake hydropower project can be approved.

This was said during a recent meeting of ECNEC chaired by Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin. “After due deliberations, the committee directed the government of Gilgit-Baltistan and Wapda to work out an updated proposal ensuring sustainability of the project and present before the committee for requisite approval,” a statement said.

The energy generated from the project will be transmitted to the load centres in Hunza Valley. While commenting on the project Shaukat tareen said that the development of Gilgit Baltistan is a top priority for the government and this project will be a step towards the uplifting of the region.
