On the last day of October, President Arif Alvi Inaugurated Dhabeji Express between Karachi and Dhabeji. It is pertinent to note that a special economic zone is being developed In Dhabeji, under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor by Sindh Government.
This nine-bogie train will start journey at 6:15 a.m. from Dhabeji in district Thatta. The train will leave Karachi at 7:00 a.m. The minimum fare will be Rs25. Pakistan Railways will offer monthly travelling pass to the workers at subsidized fares. It would cost Rs. 22 per day to a worker. On November 1, 2018 workers were charged no fare.
A fast track train between Karachi and Hyderabad would also be started soon. Later on, this service would be expanded to Sukkur. The Government plans to increase the earning of Pakistan Railways by rupees 10 billion in one year. The number of freight trains would be increased to 15. The entire railways tracks would be replaced with much better tracks meeting international standards.
The better railways network is vital for the success of CPEC and the present government is giving due importance to its up gradation and development. Officials say that the target is to run the trains at 160 kilometers per hour.
