Construction of Mohmand Dam on track: To be completed by 2026-27

Construction of Mohmand Dam, all set to become Pakistan’s highest and the world’s 5th tallest  concrete-face-rock filled dam, is on track  for completion in 206-27.

The multi-purpose Mohmand Dam is located across the river Swat in Mohmand district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, aims at not only  addressing  water  scarcity,  energy needs and flood control  but also  boosting agricultural productivity.

On its completion,  the Mohmand Dam  will store 1.29 million  acre feet (MAF)  of water. The dam was also expected to generate  800 MW  of hydropower , producing an annual  energy yield  of 2.86 billion units besides supplying  300 million  gallons of  water  daily to Peshawar for urban consumption. It will  also be delivering  an estimated  annual economic benefits of Rs 51.6 billion  through  water  storage , power generation and flood control.

Mohmand  Dam Hydropower project is being  constructed at an estimated cost of Rs   309588.381 million including foreign  aid of Rs 71549.866 million after it was considered and approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in April   2018. Against this estimated cost, an estimated expenditure of Rs 74833.557 million has been reported to  have been expended  till end June 2024 . Against huge throw-forward of Rs  234724.824 million, an allocation of Rs 36100.000 million including foreign of Rs 27800.000 million for its continued implementation  during ongoing financial year 2024-25.
