BoI directed to undertake aggressive marketing of SEZs

In a bid to facilitate the second phase of CPEC the Board of Investment has been directed to start aggressive marketing of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to pique the interest of Chinese and other investors in the region.

An inter-ministerial meeting on Joint Working Group (JWG) on industrial cooperation under CPEC during a recent meeting discussed that Pakistan has made considerable progress in the development of SEZs. Now the concerned authorities need to start aggressive marketing of the SEZs so that the investors can start relocating their industries to Pakistan.

On inclusion of Bostan SEZ into priority list of future development, BoI will be made part of the agenda in consultation with Industries & Commerce Department of Balochistan in the forthcoming meeting of the JWG on industrial cooperation.

It has also been decided that the proposals submitted by the Planning and Development (P&D) Board AJ&K for the establishment of SEZ at New Industrial Area Mirpur will be reviewed before inclusion as agenda item for the 6th JWG meeting on industrial cooperation.

Regarding establishment of Industrial Zone at Minwar Gilgit, it was unanimously endorsed that proposals submitted by the P&D Board Gilgit Baltistan will be discussed with NDRC to be included as agenda items for the 6th JWG on industrial cooperation. P&D Gilgit Baltistan should provide detailed feasibility studies of these projects.
