Athar Hayat, CEO of Bahum Global
Bahum Associates is serving in power and energy sectors since 1984. With the evolution of technologies and more efficient solutions Bahum diversified their expertise to renewable energy and storage system and started serving as Bahum Global in the market with products and solutions from world’s renowned manufacturers.
With over four decades of experience, the company initially built its reputation supplying diesel generators before successfully pivoting to renewable energy in 2019. Today, Bahum Global specializes in distributing high-performance solar inverters, energy storage systems, high-efficiency panels, and IT/telecom solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial clients across Pakistan.
In an exclusive interview with Engineering Post, Athar Hayat, CEO of Bahum Global, reflected on the company’s remarkable journey and future plans. “We sold diesel generators successfully until 2019. That year, we introduced Huawei solar inverters to Pakistan and worked tirelessly to establish the brand nationwide. By end of 2025, Huawei FusionSolar had become one of the most successful and trusted solar solutions in the country. We also supplied and installed first Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for Huawei in Pakistan for Liberty Mills Ltd.,” said Athar Hayat.
Following a strategic shift after 2026, Bahum Global has moved its primary focus to Sungrow, while continuing as an official supplier and partner for leading international manufacturers including Sungrow, Haier Energy, and Solinteg. The company offers Tier-1 solar inverters known for their reliability, efficiency, and technological advancement. Athar Hayat expressed confidence in the new direction: “Sungrow represents the next chapter for us. Their inverters and energy storage solutions match the highest global standards, and we are committed to making them the preferred choice for Pakistani customers seeking long-term performance and excellent value.”
Bahum Global is now preparing to deepen its roots in local manufacturing. “We are going to install a battery assembly line in Pakistan,” revealed Athar Hayat. “This will include lithium batteries, scooter batteries along with scooter assembling that are universally compatible with all major scooter models in the country. This initiative will not only create employment but also reduce dependence on imported batteries and strengthen the local supply chain.” During the discussion he emphasized that people have never been encouraged to set up factories in Pakistan our reliance has always been towards imports. “But now our main focus should be to focus on setting up local manufacturing plants in the country,”
When asked about challenges facing the solar sector, Athar Hayat was candid: “The government needs consistency in policies. The transition from net metering to net billing has been extremely difficult for consumers and has slowed down decision-making in the market. Sudden policy changes create uncertainty and hurt both end-users and businesses. We urge the government to provide a stable, predictable policy framework so that the solar industry can continue its strong growth.”
Athar Hayat also highlighted a broader national concern. “The youth of Pakistan is our greatest asset and holds the key to our future. However, many talented and educated young people do not see a secure and prosperous future here, which is why they seek opportunities abroad. This brain drain must be addressed urgently. The government should focus on creating quality employment opportunities, supporting local industries, and fostering an environment where our youth feel motivated to build their careers within Pakistan.”
With its deep industry experience, strong international partnerships, and upcoming local manufacturing plans, Bahum Global is well-positioned to support Pakistan’s renewable energy goals. Athar Hayat concluded on an optimistic note, reaffirming the company’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solar and storage solutions while contributing to national self-reliance and economic growth.
