Government should provide equal opportunities to Pakistani investors especially in construction sector in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), demanded by Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD).
A comprehensive policy should be announced to ensure equal opportunities for local investors especially in construction sector, said chairman ABAD, Arif Jeewa.
He said that there was no doubt that the CPEC projects would boost the country’s economy and the role of Chinese investors in this regard cannot be ruled out but the government should take concrete steps to protect local industries, especially construction sector as majority of CPEC projects were related to the said sector.
Arif further said that the government had allowed tax-free imports to the Chinese investors and thousands of acres of land were also being allotted free of cost to them for special industrial zones.
He lamented that they were not against any tax relief to Chinese investors but the government should not ignore local construction industry in the CPEC, creating negative impact on local investors.
Moreover, he said that local builders and developers were not taken on board for the development of CPEC which casts doubts over this multi-billion dollar project and urged the authority concerned to convene meeting with local builders and developers in order to redress grievances.
