6,500MW added to system since 2013

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) Chairman Tariq Saddozai told the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat that 6,500MW electricity has been added to the National Grid since 2013.

The committee met with Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood in the chair at the Parliament House. The committee discussed overall working and performance of Nepra and public petition pertaining to violation of the rights of disabled persons by Federal Public Service Commission.

While briefing the committee, Nepra Chairman Tariq Saddozai said that 600MW electricity is being added in the national grid station through Chashma Nuclear Power Plants Unit-3 and Unit-4 and 2400MW from RLNG-based power plants. He said that 787MW electricity from wind power projects, 400MW from solar power projects, 160MW from Baggasse and 1320MW from coal power projects are being added in the national grid station.

He said that a total of 289 companies have acquired licenses for power generation. He said that government has allowed generating electricity at domestic and commercial levels. He said that even hosing colonies and residential houses could generate their own electricity through solar system and other means and they also can sell extra electricity to WAPDA. He said that they could get licenses through simple procedure to sell electricity. He said, “We are considering exempting the condition of license to the residential houses to sell electricity to WAPDA.”
