During a kick-off ceremony in Islamabad, Tony Lee, CEO of Sunwalk (Pvt) Limited, announced the start of a major project in Pakistan to deploy a 16,000km fiber optic cable network. Sunwalk’s primary focus is on swift deployment while maintaining high quality according to ITU- T Standards. Lee reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch services in Pakistan. Two months ago, Sunwalk Group Chairman Hou Xing Wang informed the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom about their plans for the nationwide fiber cable installation project, involving a significant investment. Afshaan Malik, Chief Business Officer of Sunwalk Group Pakistan, emphasized the importance of the long-term strategic relationship between Pakistan and China. Despite the current economic situation, Sunwalk has fulfilled its promise by initiating the national fiber backbone project, demonstrating their dedication to providing optic cable connectivity to the people of Pakistan.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 1, connecting Islamabad to Multan, took place on May 18, 2023. Sunwalk is in the process of obtaining the Right of Way (ROW) from government departments to expedite their work. Upon securing the ROW, Sunwalk plans to invest $100 million in the project. They have already invested $5 million in Khuzdar (Balochistan) where commercial fiber infrastructure was previously lacking. Sunwalk, a diversified multinational private enterprise of Chinese origin, is focused on technology and aims to deploy optical fiber infrastructure across Pakistan. They acquired a TIP License from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in 2002 to support this initiative.
