Sindh energy minister Imtiaz Shaikh has revealed that almost 12 wind power projects are almost ready and will become completely operational by December 2020. The wind power projects will add around 600 megawatts to the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) system.
The wind power plants, each with a capacity of 50 MW, are under construction in wind corridor of Jhimpir and Jamshoro. The wind data collected from the wind corridor of Jhimpir suggests that the wind pattern at Jhimpir is so consistent that it has the potential of generating about 50,000 MW. But due to transmission constraints currently it is only generating about 1,185 MW for the National Grid.
Sindh province obtained formal licence from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to setup its own “Provincial Grid Company” (PGC) in November 2019 and work on its construction is underway.
