A water pumping station with a capacity of 100MGD has been erected at Dhabeji, Thatta District. It was inaugurated by the Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The new Pumping house has the capacity of 100 MGD and would add 50 MGD in the system which was not being supplied to Karachi due to old machinery. According to details revealed at the ceremony the pumping station consists of four pumping machines, each with a capacity of 25 MGD, therefore the total capacity welcome to 100 MGD.
This pumping station would provide an additional 50 MGD of water to Karachi from Kinjhar Lake. While addressing inauguration the ceremony of the plant the PPP chairman directed the Sindh government to construct Haleji Lake Road for the convenience of the people of the area and visitors.
This is an important step towards development of Dhabeji SEZ which is an integral part of the CPEC. It is pertinent to mention here that more than 30 national as well as international companies have shown keen interest in the development of Dhabeji SEZ.
In the mid of January 2020, Sindh Special Economic Zones Management Company (SEZMC) invited bids from interested developers and companies for the development of Dhabeji SEZ. It received an overwhelming response with over 30 national and international companies showed keen interest in bidding.
Japanese and Korean companies have jumped into the race of developing industrial zones in Pakistan alongside Chinese firms ahead of the expected relocation of some Beijing industries in the country. A pre bid meeting was also arranged at a local hotel. Secretary Investment Sindh Najam Ahmed Shah, Chief Executive Officer of (SEZMC) Abdul Azeem Uqaili, members of the Board of directors of SEZMC and their consultants attended the meeting along with representatives of interested companies. Due to repeated requests of companies the date of submission of bids has been extended to 20th April.
