1000KW DRM technology introduced at Radio Pakistan

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb laid the
foundation stone for Radio Pakistan’s 1000KW digital DRM medium wave
transmitter. This launch signifies a historic milestone as it is the first time the
1000KW digital DRM technology is being introduced.
During the event, the Minister highlighted the importance of this technology
upgrade, emphasizing that it will not only benefit people within the country but
also reach overseas Pakistanis. With 15 out of 20 transmitters either closed or
operating at half capacity, the need for this project is critical to address these
issues.
Aurangzeb further explained that the use of DRM technology, which is globally
adopted, will revolutionize Radio Pakistan’s transmission capabilities. Since its
establishment in 1947, Radio Pakistan has been relying on analog and shortwave
technology, most of which has now surpassed its lifespan, making this new
technology essential.
With the implementation of DRM, Radio Pakistan’s content will now reach 52
countries, and the transmission efficiency is expected to increase to 70 percent.
The project is scheduled to be completed within the next two years, and as a part
of the modernization effort, all archives of Radio Pakistan have already been
digitized.
