10.7% growth registered in LSMI

The Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) output has registered a growth of 10.7 percent during July-April 2021-22 as compared to the same period of the last year 2020-21.  As per the Provisional Quantum Index Numbers of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (QIM), the LSMI output for April 2022 decreased by 13.3 per cent on a month-on-month basis when compared with March 2022 with the base year, 2015-16. The indices for April 2022 and July-April 2021-22 along with growth are as; QIM estimated for July-April, 2021-22 is 126.4 and QIM estimated for April 2022 is 132.4. The LSMI output has increased by 15.4 per cent for April 2022 when compared with April 2021 and decreased by 13.3 per cent when compared with March 2022. Overall, the production in July-April 2021-22 as compared to July-April 2020-21 has increased in food, beverages & tobacco, wearing apparel, textile, chemicals, automobiles, iron and steel products, leather products, and paper and paperboard while it decreased in rubber products and other transport equipment. The major chunk of contribution has been shown with overall growth of 10.7per cent by sugar (2.0), cigarettes (0.3), garments (3.2), woolen blankets (0.6), liquids/syrups (1.5), chemical products (0.5), glass plates and sheets (0.3), billets/ingots (0.5), jeeps and cars (1.3), and furniture (1.2). The major contributor sector, Textile, depicted an increase of 3.7 per cent, food 11 per cent, beverages 1.5 per cent, tobacco 14.5 per cent, wearing apparel 41.1 per cent, chemicals 8.3 per cent, automobiles 48.2 per cent, iron and steel products 16.3 per cent, leather products 1.6 per cent, wood products 134.9 per cent, paper and board 8.2 per cent, cock and petroleum products 1.1 per cent, chemical products 16.5 per cent, fertilizers 3.4 per cent, machinery and equipment 13.6 per cent, furniture 227.5 per cent and other manufacturing (football) 37.3 per cent during July-April 2021-22 compared to the same period of 2020-21.  Albeit, Cement witnessed 4.6 per cent negative growth during July-April 2021-22 and remained 39.904 million tons compared to 41.845 million tons during the same period of last year. While, petroleum products witnessed an increase of 0.33 per cent as its output went up from 11.878 billion liters during July-April 2020-21 to 11.839 billion liters in July-April 2021-22, while on YoY basis petroleum sector witnessed a negative growth of 4.37 per cent as its output decreased from 1.231 billion liters in April 2021 to 1.17 billion liters in April 2022. Meanwhile, High-speed diesel witnessed 0.69 per cent growth as its output remained 4.626 billion litres during July-April 2021-22 compared to 4.595 billion liters during the same period of last year, and 7.34 per cent growth in April 2022, and remained 493.331 million litres compared to 459.61 million litres during the same period of last year.
