Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar in his recent meeting with Ambassador of China Yao Jing agreed to expedite the work on Eastern Corridor from Sukkur to Hyderabad in BOT (build, operate, and transfer) mode to ensure completion as soon as possible.
The 296-km project will be 6-lane motorway with design speed of 120 km/h, having 70 bridges, 15 interchanges and 243 underpasses.
Various projects under the CPEC framework including 300MW coal-based power plant in Gwadar and Kohala Hydropower station also came under discussion. The minister apprised the Chinese ambassador that less developed areas including the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been accorded priority in the next year’s development budget.
