Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (retd) visited Diamer Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project and termed them of vital importance to meet the increasing requirement of water and electricity in the country.
During his visit to Diamer Bhasha Dam, the Wapda chairman made a detailed round of the dam site, the project colony at Thor and model village Harpan Das.
The chairman also had a meeting with the chief secretary Gilgit Baltistan at Chillas and discussed with him the issues related to acquisition of land for Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, resettlement of the affectiess and the measures being taken by Wapda for socio-economic uplift of the area.
Later, the chairman visited Dasu Hydropower Project to witness construction activities on the preliminary works for infrastructure development to support initiation of construction works on the main components of the project.
He also called on local Jirga headed by Member Provincial Assembly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Abdul Sattar to persuade them for their support in land acquisition for the project so that the construction work on the project could be started without any further delay. He also announced to start work immediately to improve local roads to facilitate the local populace as confidence building measures.
