The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo ranked at no.6 in the world in regards to the global market share has decided to establish a smartphone manufacturing facility in Pakistan.
This was announced by Federal Minister for Industries & Production Hammad Azhar who tweeted “International smartphone brand VIVO has decided to establish a smart phone manufacturing facility in Pakistan. Land purchased.”
According to sources Vivo will invest around $10 million in Pakistan for building a production facility which is planned to be established at M3 Industrial Estate, in the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC).
This step would help a great deal in saving precious dollars for the national exchequer because currently Pakistan is the seventh biggest importer of smartphones in the world. Just last year Pakistan Customs collected Rs54 billion in the last year on import of mobile devices after the introduction of Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBs).
