During the last financial year 2023-24, numerous achievements were reported in the projects in different sectors under the framework of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in different parts of the country.
Briefly, in the infrastructure sector, operational dredging of the Gwadar Port channels and joint feasibility of Karakoram Highway (KKH) Phase -11 (Thakot-Raikot) were completed while the New Gwadar International Airport was in progress and nearing its completion. Realignment of KKH has been necessitated due to the construction of Dasu Dam.
In the energy sector, the first unit of 884 MW Suki Kinari Hydro Power Project has been completed and linked with the national grid for contributing its share in power generation.
Due priority is being given by all official quarters to the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) like Rashakai, Allama Iqbal, Bostan, and Dhabeji and steady progress is being made in the development and allocation of plots for establishing industrial units.
Furthermore, as many as 57 projects in different sectors had been shortlisted for the third batch of CPEC and shared with the Chinese side for consideration at the appropriate level and finalized.
