Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Petroleum, Nadeem Baber has said that the government is determined to find offshore oil and gas reserves in Pakistan. He revealed that plans to auction 35 new exploration blocks, in the offshore Indus Delta, are in the pipelines to be executed with in the next few months.
During his visit to the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) head office he said that the government wants to invite more foreign and local exploration companies to start search of oil and gas in Pakistan. He pointed out that soon more foreign companies will be invited to start exploration activities in Pakistan. “Exxon is also interested in starting exploration activities in other blocks,”
For a few months now gas production has declined to 3.7bcfd against 4.0bcfd. This sudden decrease is not only causing shortage but also increasing the oil import bill. Now the government wants to increase oil and gas productions to meet the local demand.
