The controversy of MD NTDC

As the recently appointed Managing Director National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) has resigned under questionable circumstances leaving the key post vacant after only a short span of three months.

The previous MD NTDC Engr. Azaz who had come from Canada, resigned from his position citing some family health problems. At the time of his hiring a total of four people had been shortlisted for the position namely Mujahid Pervaiz Chatta, former CEO LESCO, Maj. Gen. Azeem Asif, ex Chairman/Deputy Chairman ERRA and Member FPSC, and Mujahid Islam Billah, former CEO FESCO/GEPCO and SEPCO.

Some internal sources reveal that Engr Azaz ahmad was the last person on this list and was still selected for this position. This issue was also raised in the senate standing committee on power where officials from the Division failed to justify why he was selected for this key position out of turn when more experienced and qualified candidates were available.

Now the question remains who will take charge as the new MD. Some people within the entity are suggesting that the second shortlisted candidate after interview should be asked to take charge of the office while there are also rumours that a Joint Secretary (JS) from the Power Division and a General Manager (GM) from the NTDC are vying for additional charge of the office of MD NTDC
