Swat’s Hydropower Projects Set to Add 330MW to National Grid by 2027

In a significant development for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s energy sector, three hydropower projects initiated under the supervision of the Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO) are set to begin producing 330 megawatts (MW) of electricity within the next two years.

Secretary Energy and Power Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Zubair Khan, announced this during his visit to the under-construction hydropower sites in Swat, accompanied by CEO PEDO Habibullah and Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan. The projects include the 84 MW Gorkin Matiltan, 88 MW Gabral Kalam, and the 36.6 MW Daral Khor Hydropower Plant, which was recently affected by floods.

The secretary also reviewed progress on the 40-kilometer 132/220 kV transmission line along the Swat corridor, which is expected to be completed next year. “Once operational, this line will enable the province to supply affordable electricity to the industrial sector,” he stated.

During the visit, the secretary directed officials to resolve public complaints related to water supply and instructed prompt payment of salaries to Gorkin Matiltan project employees. He also inspected the Gabral Kalam staff colony and urged acceleration of construction work for timely completion.

Inspecting the flood-damaged Daral Khor plant, Secretary Zubair Khan directed the Assistant Commissioner Bahrain to address public grievances immediately to ensure smooth project progress. The completion of these projects will mark a major step towards energy self-sufficiency and industrial growth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
