Statistics show 9.87% decline in LSMI output

According to the data shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Large
Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) output has declined by 9.87 percent during
July-May 2022-23 when compared with the same period of last year.
The main contributors towards overall figure of -9.87 per cent are, food (-1.30),
tobacco (-0.63), textile (-3.66) garments (2.58), petroleum products (-0.81),
chemicals (-0.54), cement (-0.76), pharmaceuticals (-1.59), iron and steel products
(-0.22), electrical equipment (-0.49) and automobiles (-2.08).
Specifically focusing on petroleum products, their production witnessed a decline
of 12.23 percent during July-May 2022-23. The indices for petroleum products
went down to 87.71 from 99.93 compared to July-May 2021-22. The production
of high-speed diesel experienced a negative growth rate of 15.63 percent, with
the output being 4.308 billion liters in July-May 2022-23, down from 5.106 billion
liters in July-May 2021-22.
Furnace oil also witnessed a negative growth rate of 12.45 percent, with the
output being 2.043 billion liters in July-May 2022-23, down from 2.334 billion
liters in July-May 2021-22. Kerosene oil experienced a negative growth rate of
10.30 percent, with the output being 101.239 million liters in July-May 2022-23,
down from 112.865 million liters.
On the other hand, jet fuel oil saw a growth rate of 9.53 percent, with the output
being 811.644 million liters in July-May 2022-23, up from 741.023 million liters in
July-May 2021-22.
In the cement sector, production witnessed a significant decline of 12.36 percent
in July-May 2022-23, with the output being 37.806 million tons compared to
43.140 million tons in July-May 2021-22, according to PBS data.
