Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) celebrated its 28th convocation with grandeur, conferring degrees and medals on 854 high-achieving students. The event drew dignitaries, scholars, and families, with Federal IT Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Chancellor Jawaid Anwar highlighting the institution’s transformative role.
Dr. Siddiqui lauded SSUET as an “oasis in the desert” for Karachi’s youth but critiqued Pakistan’s feudal structure, stating, “Education and democracy cannot thrive here… Truth is both a destination and a path.” Chancellor Anwar outlined the university’s growth since 2015: a budget surge from Rs 950 million to Rs 1.5 billion, student intake rising from 1,755 to 2,661, and degree programs expanding from 19 to 49.
In a landmark move, SSUET signed a Rs 50 million annual cost-saving solar energy deal with Redstone Energy. The 450-kilowatt solar project, to be operational by April 2025 on a B.O.T model, will redirect funds to research, scholarships, and academic needs.
Registrar Cdre Syed Sarfraz Ali (retd) reaffirmed SSUET’s vision to become a “world-class institution,” emphasizing innovation and excellence. The convocation closed on a note of ambition, blending academic celebration with sustainable progress.
