Sindh’s Minister for Energy, Development, and Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has announced a landmark initiative to install 200,000 solar home systems across the province by July 31, 2025, backed by the World Bank. The ambitious project aims to accelerate renewable energy access, particularly in underserved regions.
Presiding over a high-level review meeting at the Energy Department, Shah directed officials to ensure 1,600 solar systems are distributed monthly across all districts, with 400 units allocated weekly per district. “This project must meet its deadline without delay,” he asserted, instructing the immediate distribution of 50,000 solar panels currently in warehouses within 30 days, with progress reports submitted directly to his office.
The meeting, attended by Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Energy Secretary Musaddiq Ahmed Khan, and solar project advisors, underscored the initiative’s alignment with Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s vision and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s directives. Both Shah and Ghani emphasized streamlining efforts to fulfill the leadership’s “pro-people agenda,” linking the drive to socio-economic development and energy sustainability.
Advisor Sonia Soomro and project leads Syed Zain Haider and Abdul Ghani provided updates, highlighting logistical frameworks for equitable distribution. The World Bank-supported scheme marks Sindh’s largest off-grid solar rollout, targeting households lacking reliable electricity access.
With Sindh grappling with power deficits, the project promises transformative impacts, reducing carbon emissions and energy costs. As deadlines loom, stakeholders face mounting pressure to execute transparent, efficient installations. For now, the province eyes 2025 as a milestone in its green energy transition.
