The Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform has presented its recommendation that all costs of Nai Gaj Dam project over and above the first revision of 2012 should be the responsibility of Sindh govt. Senator Agha Shahzaib Durrani chaired the committee at Parliament House in Islamabad.
During the meeting the committee was informed that Nai Gaj Dam was considered by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on January 25, 2019. The project was deferred for being a single province project. The committee recommended that the Sindh government should bear the cost of the project The Government of Sindh committed that an area of 28,800 acres of land will be developed by it in synchronization with main dam over two years.
While deliberating upon the issue, the chairman committee asked the reason for delay in the completion of project. The committee was informed that the main reason for the delay was design change due to a consultancy error. The committee stressed the need to investigate the matter thoroughly to determine the entity at fault and submit a report to the committee
