Sindh’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Energy, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has announced a significant gas and condensate discovery at the Pateji-X1 exploration well, located in the Shah Bandar Block, District Sujawal. The well is producing approximately 11.7 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 198 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. This discovery highlights the potential of the Shah Bandar Block, which has now yielded its third consecutive hydrocarbon find.
The Shah Bandar Block is a joint venture operated by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), which holds a 63% working interest. Other stakeholders include Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) with a 32% share, Sindh Energy Holding Company (Pvt) Limited (SEHCL) with 2.5%, and Government Holdings (Pvt) Limited (GHPL), also with 2.5%. The Pateji-X1 well was spudded on October 11 and drilled to a depth of 2,475 meters, targeting the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sands in the Lower Goru Formation. The well achieved successful results under a flowing wellhead pressure of 2,578 PSI with a choke size of 32/64 inches.
This discovery is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s indigenous hydrocarbon reserves, contributing to greater energy security while reducing reliance on imported fuels. The increased production capacity from the Shah Bandar Block will not only help alleviate the ongoing energy crisis but also conserve foreign exchange by cutting down energy imports.
The collaborative efforts of PPL, MPCL, SEHCL, and GHPL underscore the importance of joint ventures in tapping into Pakistan’s energy potential. The continued exploration and development in this region are anticipated to play a crucial role in bolstering the country’s energy sector and driving economic growth.
