Railways earned Rs 7.57 billion from leasing over six thousand acres of land

Somehow funds starved Pakistan Railways had leased out approximately 6678 acres of its land through a competitive bidding process and generated a substantial amount of Rs 7.57 billion during the last two financial years.

The land was leased out to the government institutions as well as also to the private individuals under the relevant rules and regulations with the approval of the federal government.

According to the railways Ministry official sources, Pakistan Railways had operated 1450 freight trains and generated an income of Rs 15.21 billion through the freight operations.

Pakistan Railways was operating the passenger and freight trains at full capacity thereby ensuring adequately enhancing its revenue while at the same time taking appropriate measures for reducing the operational costs.

Pakistan Railways was also partnering with the private sector under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, outsourcing the commercial management of various passenger trains to the private sector parties.
