Punjab to Boost Solar Energy, and Industry with Ambitious Initiatives

The Punjab government has unveiled a series of transformative initiatives to revolutionize agriculture, solar energy, and industrial development in the province.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, during a review of the Annual Development Program (ADP), highlighted plans to expand solar energy use. Free solar energy will be provided to citizens, and government buildings will be converted to solar power by June. An additional Rs6 billion has been allocated for promoting solar projects, including electricity generation from waste.

Progress was also noted on solar energy initiatives for the Punjab Assembly, Institute of Cardiology, and other departments. Over 5,000 farmers have benefited from the Chief Minister Kisan Card, while agricultural research through universities is set to innovate farming techniques.

The government is focusing on restoring citrus fruit production, establishing model agricultural markets, and launching biogas and fertilizer plants. Industrial projects include completing the “Garments Cities” project by March and acquiring land for a 300-acre Industrial and Technology Park in Narowal. A feasibility study for a technology university in Kasur is also underway.
