In a major stride for Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced a strategic partnership with technology solutions leader DWP Technologies and Dell Technologies to revolutionize its data centre storage platforms. A signing ceremony held in Islamabad formalized the collaboration, attended by senior executives including Jafar Khalid, Group Chief Technology and Information Officer, PTCL & Ufone 4G, and Rohail Bashir, Chief Operating Officer, DWP Technologies.
This initiative, a core component of PTCL’s ongoing digital transformation, aims to modernize its storage infrastructure using Dell’s software-driven enterprise and mid-tier platforms. The upgrade promises significant benefits: boosting operational efficiency, enhancing performance, ensuring scalability for surging data demands, and solidifying PTCL’s leadership in the telecom sector.
Key technological advancements include the implementation of a resilient three-site active-active metro architecture, guaranteeing continuous service even during localized disruptions. The new infrastructure is also designed for future growth within the PTCL Group. Crucially, PTCL confirmed that the existing mission-critical platforms supporting PTCL and Ufone 4G, utilizing enterprise replication (SRDF) across three sites, will remain fully supported throughout the transition, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Operational gains are substantial, featuring a drastic reduction in the Data Centre footprint alongside significantly lower power and cooling requirements, translating to reduced operational costs and improved energy efficiency.
