Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant second discovery of gas and condensate at its Pateji X-1 well in the Shah Bandar Block, located in Sujawal, Sindh. This breakthrough highlights the ongoing potential of the region’s hydrocarbon reserves.
In a statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, PPL revealed that the discovery was made in the Upper Sand (C-Sand) reservoir after a thorough analysis of acquired data. The well is part of a joint venture with Mari Petroleum Limited (32%), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (2.5%), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (2.5%), while PPL holds a 63% working interest.
Drilled to a depth of 2,475 meters, the Pateji X-1 well targeted the Lower Goru Formation. The operation began on October 11, 2024, after detailed geological evaluations, and identified hydrocarbon-bearing zones through advanced drilling techniques and wireline logging.
This discovery reinforces PPL’s role in driving domestic energy exploration and development, contributing to Pakistan’s energy security. It also underlines the Shah Bandar Block’s potential for further resource development, creating opportunities for sustainable growth in the energy sector.
