The Pakistani and Chinese side held detailed meeting regarding Gwadar in Joint Working Group (JWG) under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Both sides agreed to sign the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)/Implementation Agreement (IA) of 300-megawatt (MW) Imported Coal-Based Power Project at Gwadar on priority basis.
The 300MW imported coal-based power project worth $542.32 million was inaugurated by the then Minister for Planning, Development, and Reform Khusro Bakhtyar and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe November 2019.
In May 2020, project developers secured 207 acres of land for the plant while in September 2020, Power China signed a contract for the operation and maintenance of the power station in the next seven years. CIHC Pak Power Company Limited (CPPCL) would build the plant. It is a subsidiary of China Communication Construction Group (CCCC). CIHC stands for CCCC Industrial Investment Holding Company.
