Power Division of the Federal Government is implementing 30 ongoing development projects through own resources in a phased manner.
All these projects cost rupee component is funded by Power Division through own resources and foreign aid component through budgetary allocations for the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) at a total cost of Rs 917091.381 million including foreign aid of Rs 618000.618 million. An estimated amount of Rs 191817.258 million has so far been incurred on the continued execution of these projects by end June 2022 . Against throw forward of Rs 725274.105 million, an allocation of Rs 58441.427 million including foreign aid of Rs 18473.427 million has been provided for their continued implementation during ongoing financial year 2022-23 under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Federal Government..
All these projects have been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) depending on the cost estimates .
These projects include 500kv HVDC Transmission System between Tajikistan and Pakistan for Central Asia -South Asia Transmission Interconnection (CASA-1000). The project approved by ECNEC in August 2019 is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs 46804.000 million including foreign aid of Rs 30751.000 million. Against this, Rs 19371.360 million have been expended on it till end June 2022 and another amount of Rs 3100.000 million including foreign aid of Rs 1050.000 million are being incurred on its continued execution during financial year 2022-23.
Other five projects are being implemented with cooperation and financial assistance of KFW of Germany, Asian development Bank. JICA of Japan,.
Projects so being executed also include six projects namely Evacuation of Power from 1320 MW Power Plant at Sahiwal, Evacuation of Power from 2160 MW Dasu Hydropower Plant Stage-1, Evacuation of Power from Suki Kinari Kohala Mahal HPPs, Evacuation of power from Tarbela 5th Extension, Evacuation of power from Wind Power Projects at Jhimper and Gharo Wind Cluster.. It may be mentioned here that NTDC links power generation units with load centers all over the country including Karachi. NTDC operates and maintains 16 500 KV grid stations and 45 220 grid stations and is headquartered at Lahore.
