In an informal moment with the media the Prime minister of Pakistan Imran khan said that huge oil and gas reserves are expected to be unearthed off the coast of Karachi. He said that within 3 weeks he will deliver good news to the nation. This discovery will provide massive relief to the country. “We are hopeful of finding large reserves of gas and oil in the sea near Karachi. The nation should pray for this and I will soon share good news regarding this. God willing the reserves will be so large that we will not need to import any oil,” said Khan
Engineering post has been following this development from the very beginning and keeping you informed. Indus G-Block has been selected for the drilling operation. The drilling has been undertaken by the joint venture of Exxon Mobil and ENI an Italian company working in Pakistan’s upstream sector since 2000. They have chartered Saipan 12000 rig to drill the exploration well, located 230 kilometers southwest of Karachi in the water depth of more than 1,300 meters. The well’s diameter is 18 to 24 inches. The target is to drill up to the depth of 5500 feet with initial cost of $75 Million.
The current oil and gas reserves of Pakistan are expected to end within 11 years and 14 years, respectively. Pakistan imports oil worth $14 billion every year to fulfill its requirements.
