Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) has approved the construction of three hydel power projects of 506 megawatt in district Chitral through public sector national construction company Frontier Works Organization (FWO).
The approval was given during 21st meeting of the Board of Director (BoD) of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) with chairman, Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad in the chair. The BoD also decided conducting six-month financial and technical audit of energy sector projects.
The Board of Director reviewed the recommendations of the management and technical committees regarding initiating work on three hydel power projects in Chitral through FWO. The projects were included Laspur Mojigram Hydropower project 230MW, Shogai Zhandwali Hydropower project 144MW and Shogoson Hydropower project 132MW.
The meeting reviewed pace of work on all ongoing energy sector projects and agreed in principle for twice conducting of financial and technical monitoring of all ongoing and completed projects in a year to ensure financial and administrative transparency and zero tolerance to corruption in them. The meeting was told that for the industrial utilization of the 56MW electricity generated through own resources of the province negotiations with KP Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) is in progress.
The board was told that for expansion in the scope of energy sector projects, a bill to bring amendment in Hydel Development Funds Act had already been tabled in the provincial assembly. The approval will change Hydel Development Funds into Energy Development Fund.
