PEC Launches Graduate Engineer Trainee Placement Program at National Scale

In a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s engineering workforce, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has signed strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading public and private sector organizations to launch the Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Program at scale.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at a Karachi hotel under the chairmanship of PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir. The event was attended by Vice Chairman Sindh Engr. Mukhtar Sheikh, members of the PEC Governing Body, senior PEC officials, and representatives of partner organizations from across the country.

The ceremony brought together the leadership of Pakistan’s most critical national institutions, signalling strong industry alignment with PEC’s vision to transform how engineers are trained and deployed. Public sector partners include Pakistan Airports Authority, Karachi Port Trust, Naval Research & Development Institute, Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, Pakistan Machine Tool Factory, and DHA Pakistan, representing key pillars of the aviation, maritime, defence, and infrastructure sectors.

A strong private sector coalition including Dewan Cement, H. Nizam Din & Sons, Mak Power, Alsons Industries, Harbin Electric, Cnergyico, Pakistan Cables, Yunus Textile Mills, and Inbox Business Technologies has also committed to the initiative. These organizations will provide young engineers with structured industrial exposure, professional mentoring, and performance-based career development under PEC’s national framework.

Addressing the ceremony, Engr. Waseem Nazir said the GET Program is a fully PEC-funded, structured initiative aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry. He revealed that the first batch has already been launched, with 600 graduate engineers placed in 40 national organizations across Pakistan.

Director General Pakistan Airports Authority AVM Zeeshan Saeed termed the program a “national investment in engineering excellence,” while Rear Admiral Kashif Munir, GM Karachi Port Trust, reaffirmed full institutional support. With broad-based industry participation, the GET Program has emerged as a national movement to transform engineering talent into a strategic national strength.
