PBS data showed major textile exports decline

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) shared the textile market exports data for
the fiscal year 2022-23. According to the data, textile exports showed a decline of
14.63 percent during the current fiscal year and stood at 16.5 billion dollars as
compared to 19.3 billion dollars recorded during the fiscal year 2021-22. The
textile exports showed a decline of 13 percent in June 2023 when observed on a
YoY basis and remained at 1.4 billion dollars as compared to 1.7 billion dollars
recorded on the same month last year.
On a MoM basis, 11.47 percent growth was observed in the textile group
compared to May 2023. Overall national exports stood at 27.7 billion dollars
showing a decrease of 12.7 percent as compared to the same time last year, when
a total of 31.7 billion dollars of exports were observed.
A negative growth of 30 percent was observed in the cotton yarn industry which
remained at 844 million dollars as compared to 1.2 billion dollars during 2021-22.
On a year-on-year basis, cotton yarn exports registered 13.84 per cent growth and
stood at $107.97 million, while on a MoM basis, it registered 6.72 per cent growth
when compared to $100.355 million in May 2023.
A decline of 14.47 percent was observed in the rice exports during the current
fiscal year as compared to the same period last year. Moreover, food group
exports declined by 12.73 percent and stood at 5 billion dollars. 27 billion dollars
pf exports were recorded on a total during July-June 2022-23 period which
showed a decrease of 12.7 percent.
The major export products during June 2023 included cotton yarn (Rs30,692
million), towels (Rs24,999 million), rice others (Rs24,487 million), rice basmati
(Rs17,728 million), made-up articles (excl towels and bedwear) (Rs16,370 million),
knitwear (Rs112,348 million), readymade garments (Rs91,582 million), bed wear
(Rs68,891 million), cotton cloth (Rs46,601 million), and surgical goods and
medical instruments (Rs11,581 million).
