Iqbal Institute of Policy Studies (IIPS) hosted a live session in the last week of June to discuss the increasing trend of building collapses across the country. The panel of experts developed a consensus during the session that Pakistan needs to enforce regulatory framework/construction codes, improve land regulations and building controls, standardize and implement building laws to ensure safety of the tenants and avoid building collapses in future.
Experts shared data that with rapid urbanization, it is estimated that by the year 2030, 45.6 percent of Pakistan’s population will be living in cities which means that it is essential to develop and implement safety regulations on a priority basis now.
