The Government of Sindh has claimed about the successful development of a project of palm oil production in Thatta district. The Palm Oil Mill under the administrative supervision of the Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Department (ECC&CD) along with operational oversight of the Sindh Coastal Development Authority has started palm oil production.
This project will help to save billions of dollars annually. Prior to this, Pakistan’s demand for palm oil was met through importing it mainly from
Southeast Asian countries. The Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development Department had planted 50 acres of palm trees in Thatta district. This year, the palm trees have given record fruit which will produce 2 tons of palm oil per day. Oil has been started to be extracted from the fruits of palm trees.
